My inspiration, My teacher – A woman of substance

Growing up, my wandering mind derived inspirations from bits and pieces to kinds and mankind. A lot many things inspired me and tickled my curiosity furthermore and in the end, I was full of lots of whats and whys.

May it be philosophy or for some mighty guidance, the answer to all my whats and whys were found from my ma’am. She was a teacher in high school and while growing up all I desired was to earn that moment of appreciation from her. Honest and bold, she was an epitome of poise and strength. She was not only a teacher but more of a mother to me.

Chandra Kala N, my favourite teacher in 21 years of my life. She has not just been an inspiration but a guide, who would encourage me to walk that extra mile and see the world from different perspectives. Her pleasant smile, her kind presence and her optimistic approach of life has inspired me to dream with open eyes, to be hopeful always and never lose hope in life.

She was one of the few guardians who openly advocated the idea of how important it is to voice one’s opinions and give thought their wings to fly. With a keen nose for grammar and a stronghold on vocabulary, she taught me one of the most important lessons of life, “how important it is to remain hungry for knowledge and never miss on any opportunity to learn throughout,  an individual’s life.”

Ma’am, you are truly the one who defines feminism. The first time when I got introduced to the concept of feminism, it didn’t feel like a vague notion to me because I knew you, and you defined feminism to me. When in times of stress you told me to calmly deal with it, I had a different interpretation of poems, words, and stories you welcomed me to express and provided the stage to voice my opinion. You introduced and made me realise my love for poetries. You empowered me and many people alike with self-belief and the will to achieve.

Today, I’m confident, and the reason behind that is all those moments where I doubted myself and you pushed me to walk that extra mile. You taught me that the secret to success lies in, “embracing who you are and believing in what you want to achieve”… And here I am…

I write this because I want to convey my gratitude about how honoured and blessed I feel each moment because I had you as a teacher.
